Twig Girdler

Twig Girdler (Oncideres pustulatus) - Twig girdlers are small (1.5 to 1.75 inches long) and are dark brown in color. Being members of the longhorn beetle genus, they also bear distinctive long antennae. The female beetles will chew a groove around the circumference of small branches, girdling and killing these parts of a tree. The affected branches will be fed on by larvae and eventually be shed from the tree. Despite the damage that they cause, twig girdlers have not been known to cause a significant threat to tree health.
